History through faces
The Project History through Faces has been initiated by All-Ukrainian Charitable Fund “To You” (ACF 2U). The aim of the project is the preservation of the memory of heroic deeds of those who are known as Righteous Gentiles.
Unfortunately, various foundations and institutions on the territory of the former Soviet Union started collecting the stories, how Righteous rescued Jews during WWII, many years after the war.
These people are not used to brag about their stories, many of them are surviving receiving a minimum monthly pension. Year by year the number of Righteous is decreasing. Thus, ACF 2U believes it is important to remind about their deeds and to preserve these stories.
ACF 2U involved professional photographer and journalist who collected necessary materials to prepare an exhibition, which would take place in the Supreme Council of Ukraine and later in the premise of Kiev City State Administration. The exhibition is dedicated to the International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
The idea of the project has been supported by a number of people’s deputies, historians, journalists.
Irrespectively of the fact that a lot is done by volunteers, the project itself is quite costly. To arrange the exhibition on the appropriate level roll-ups, printing of posters, rent of exhibition constructions, manual with stories printing, etc are needed.
A lot has been done but much more is ahead to pay tribute to our heroes.
This project is really to the point in modern Ukraine because the country is thirsty for real heroes one could be proud with. The personalities of the Righteous cannot be ambiguous and cannot cause any negative connotation. They risked themselves and their loved ones to save strangers. They are the very beam of light that helped dispel great darkness. Alas, the majority of the Righteous and Rescued are no longer with us. Perhaps this is our last opportunity to perpetuate their feat in their lifetime and in their presence.
